Know your body shape, know what wedding dress style to choose

For brides-to-be, knowing exactly what type of wedding gown that not only suits their body type but also meets their idea of the dream wedding dress is a challenge.

Before starting your search for the perfect wedding dress you need to have a clear idea of what type of wedding dress is ideally suited to not only you, but to your wedding. Your bridal gown should not only reflect the formality and theme of the wedding but your own unique sense of style.

Here are some of our typical body shapes with styles that are designed to flatter.

TIP: While focusing on highlighting your best features and minimizing your imperfections, always make sure that you will feel comfortable and relaxed in whatever you decide on.

Hourglass
Pronounced bust, well defined waist, curvy hips and shapely legs think Marilyn Monroe.  Strapless or halter neck will suit with a fitted body to flatter your feminine curves.

Pear Shaped
This means you have narrow shoulders, small bust, wider hips and full thighs.  Go for the fashionable Empire line or A Line, he will love you for it.

Athletic
Wide shoulders, medium bust, straight waist and narrow hips.  Try a strapless or shoestring strap dress with a fitted waist - a classic look that will be adored

Round Waist Narrow Hips
Wide neck, full bust, thicker waist. Go for a lower or sweetheart neckline that will elongate your neck and accentuate your bust.  A fitted or drop waist will lengthen your torso, slim her line and make you feel fabulous.

Straight
Wide shoulders, undefined waist and bottom average bust.  A-line is ideal as is an empire waist to soften your form, lengthen your form and add volume to your behind.

Your budget will help to determine whether you choose to find a couturier, home dressmaker or even purchase your gown off-the-rack.
